Hochkirch Blanc is an expressive skin-contact blend of 95% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, grown on John Nagorcka’s certified-biodynamic home farm in Henty—Australia’s coolest wine-growing region. The vines are rooted in gravelly, basalt-rich soils, giving the wine its distinctive mineral character.

Mostly destemmed fruit, with 19% retained as whole bunches, fermented on skins for eight days before being pressed to 500-litre puncheons and matured on lees. Pale yellow in the glass, it opens with sweet florals and edgy wet-stone phenolics. The palate has surprising weight, balanced by pronounced minerality and bright, lively acidity, with delicate honey and floral notes emerging on the finish. In John’s words: “Unfined, unfiltered, unabashed.”

About the Winemaker
John and Jennifer Nagorcka are among Australia’s quiet pioneers of biodynamic winegrowing. At Hochkirch, in the cool reaches of Victoria’s Henty region, the family farms ten hectares of vines as part of a diverse 280-hectare agricultural property. Established by John in 1990 and biodynamically certified since 2003, the vineyards are now managed by his son Christian. The own-rooted vines grow without irrigation on gravelly loam over deep clay and weathered basalt, with every task completed by hand.

Everything at Hochkirch begins with farming. Earlier harvesting preserves acidity, fragrance and finesse, while natural fermentation, older oak and low or no sulphur allow the vineyard to speak clearly. The resulting wines are vibrant, savoury and deeply textural, shaped by Henty’s cool winds and basalt-rich soils rather than cellar technique. Authentic and fearlessly individual, they reflect generations of practical observation, thoughtful stewardship and a profound connection to the land.
