Tucked between Burgundy and Switzerland, Jura is a small, cool-climate region shaped by limestone soils, forested hills, and a strong sense of tradition. Its wines are often defined by their individuality, with styles ranging from fresh and mineral to oxidative and deeply savoury.

Local varieties such as Savagnin, Poulsard, and Trousseau take centre stage, alongside Chardonnay, each offering a unique expression of the region’s terroir. Jura is perhaps best known for its oxidative wines, including Vin Jaune, where extended ageing under a veil of yeast creates complex flavours of nuttiness, spice, and umami. At the same time, there is a strong tradition of fresher, more lifted styles that highlight purity and energy.

The region has become a focal point for minimal intervention winemaking, with many producers working organically or biodynamically and taking a hands-off approach in the cellar. This has contributed to Jura’s cult status among wine drinkers seeking wines with character and authenticity.

Producers such as L’Octavin, Domaine Bornard, and Domaine de Saint Pierre are widely regarded as icons of the region. Their wines are highly sought after and often sell out quickly, reflecting both the limited scale of production and the growing global demand for Jura’s distinctive style.

Jura wines challenge expectations and reward curiosity, offering a compelling combination of tradition, experimentation, and a deep connection to place.
