Sangiovese is the backbone of the region, shaping styles from Chianti to Brunello di Montalcino. These wines are typically driven by red fruit, herbs, and earthy complexity, supported by firm tannins and bright acidity that give them both energy and ageing potential. While traditionally structured, many modern interpretations lean toward greater balance and drinkability.

Alongside Sangiovese, Tuscany has also become known for its so-called “Super Tuscan” wines, where international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are blended or bottled on their own. These wines often bring a different dimension, combining Tuscan character with a broader, more polished style.

In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on organic and biodynamic farming, as well as a move toward more transparent winemaking. Producers are increasingly focused on site expression, working to highlight the nuances of soil, elevation, and microclimate across the region.
