Piedmont

Located in northwestern Italy at the foothills of the Alps, Piedmont is defined by rolling hills, foggy mornings, and a continental climate that allows for slow, extended ripening. This combination is particularly suited to Nebbiolo, the region’s flagship variety, which produces wines of complexity, structure, and lifted aromatics.

Barolo and Barbaresco are the most recognised expressions of Nebbiolo, offering wines that are powerful yet precise, with notes of red fruit, rose, spice, and earth, supported by firm tannins and vibrant acidity. These are wines built to age, evolving over time into something deeply nuanced and expressive.

Alongside Nebbiolo, Piedmont is home to a range of other varieties that contribute to its diversity. Barbera offers a more approachable, fruit-driven style with bright acidity, while Dolcetto provides softer, everyday drinking wines with a savoury edge. White varieties such as Arneis and Cortese also play a role, producing fresh, mineral-driven wines.

While steeped in tradition, Piedmont has seen a gradual shift toward more thoughtful and transparent winemaking. Many producers are embracing organic farming and a lighter touch in the cellar, aiming to highlight vineyard character and bring greater clarity to their wines.
