Meet the region

Rhône Valley

Stretching from Lyon to the Mediterranean, the Rhône Valley is divided into two distinct sections, each with its own climate, varieties, and identity. The Northern Rhône is cooler and more focused, centred on Syrah, which produces wines of structure, spice, and savoury complexity. These are often medium-bodied yet powerful in character, with a clear expression of site.

Further south, the Southern Rhône opens into a warmer, more expansive landscape where Grenache plays a leading role, often blended with varieties such as Syrah and Mourvèdre. Wines from this part of the region tend to be more generous and fruit-driven, with notes of dark berries, herbs, and spice, balanced by a natural warmth and texture. Appellations such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape are among the most recognised, known for their layered, complex wines and ability to age.

Across the Rhône, traditional winemaking practices remain important, but there is also a growing movement toward organic and biodynamic farming, as well as minimal intervention in the cellar. This has brought renewed energy to the region, with producers seeking greater transparency and a closer connection to their vineyards.

The Rhône Valley offers a broad spectrum of styles, united by a sense of authenticity and regional identity, producing wines that are both expressive and deeply rooted in place.
