Bordeaux Wine

Located in southwestern France, Bordeaux is defined by its maritime climate, gravel, clay, and limestone soils, and a long tradition of blending varieties to achieve balance and complexity. The region is broadly divided by the Gironde estuary into the Left Bank and Right Bank, each with its own stylistic identity.

On the Left Bank, Cabernet Sauvignon plays a leading role, producing wines that are structured, tannic, and built for ageing, often blended with Merlot and Cabernet Franc to add depth and complexity. The Right Bank, by contrast, is dominated by Merlot, resulting in wines that are generally softer, more approachable, and plush in texture, while still retaining structure and longevity.

Cabernet Franc is an important supporting variety across both sides, contributing aromatic lift, spice, and freshness to the blends. This interplay between the three varieties is central to Bordeaux’s identity, creating wines that are balanced, layered, and capable of evolving over time.

While Bordeaux is often associated with tradition and prestige, there is a growing movement of producers embracing organic and biodynamic farming, along with more considered, minimal intervention approaches in the cellar. This shift is bringing renewed energy and transparency to the region, highlighting site expression alongside its classic foundations.

Bordeaux wines remain a reference point for balance and structure, offering a spectrum of styles that range from powerful and age-worthy to more immediate and approachable, all grounded in a deep sense of place.
