2019 Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux

Château Jean Faure occupies an exceptional 18-hectare vineyard beside Château Cheval Blanc and Château Figeac. Its deep Oligocene clay soils are particularly suited to Cabernet Franc, which forms 65% of the 2019 blend alongside 30% Merlot and 5% Malbec. The 45-year-old vines are certified organic and farmed with biodynamic practices.

Harvested by hand and carefully sorted, the fruit was fermented without added sulphur in concrete and wooden vats. The wine was matured across new and seasoned French oak, concrete vats and large casks, preserving aromatic freshness while building texture and complexity.

Perfumed, poised and finely structured, the palate combines ripe red and dark fruit with floral lift, earthy depth and beautifully integrated tannins. There is ample concentration from the warm 2019 vintage, yet the wine remains energetic and refined, with the freshness and length expected of top Saint-Émilion.

"Dark ruby garnet with purple reflections and a lightly ochre rim. Ripe black cherries, a hint of plums, some dried fruit, nougat and tobacco on the nose, underlaid with candied orange zest. Juicy and complex on the palate with a fine fruit sweetness and ripe, well-integrated tannins. Chocolaty nuances show on the finish, which is elegant and persistent and already developed. Sure ageing potential here in this savoury, multi-faceted food companion."
