Tranquil – Traditional Method Sparkling

This is the 3rd release of the Tranquil traditional method sparkling. Producing sparkling wine is a costly and time-consuming exercise, which comes with great reward. I’m excited to be getting this program pumping to deliver more interesting styles.

This release is again made up of 50% Nebbiolo and 50% Sangiovese, all from the Pyrenees, Victoria. Vintages 2023 and 2024. perfect for the base wine — providing beautiful structure, acid, and finesse. Once triaged, the wine was left on lees for 6 months. When disgorged, it required zero dosage (generally the style of sparkling wine I like to drink).

It’s a bit unconventional to blend Nebbiolo and Sangiovese together to produce a sparkling wine — yet very captivating, as the varieties work so well together, complementing their strengths: freshness, acid, and tannin from the Nebbiolo ( kind of acting like Chardonnay for zing), Fruit and structure from the Sangiovese. (maybe kind of like a Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier)

Sourced from select parcels in the Pyrenees, this wine reflects the tension and beauty of two noble Italian varieties growing on quartz and ironstone soils.

The base wines were drawn from the 2023 and 2024 vintages and raised in a mix of stainless steel and seasoned French oak casks. After blending and tirage, the wine spent 6 months resting on lees to build complexity and finesse. It was disgorged with zero dosage, allowing the energy and detail of the fruit to take centre stage.

The result is a bright, fresh, and wonderfully textured sparkling wine — dry and precise, with red fruit nuance from the Sangiovese, lifted aromatics and fine tannin from the Nebbiolo, and a persistent, mineral-driven finish.
