Classic Muscadet with white fruit and lingering minerality

Made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne, this classic Muscadet draws primarily from granite soils, with smaller portions grown on gneiss. The heart of the blend comes from Pépière’s ten-hectare home vineyard within the Clisson cru, joined by a significant contribution from Château Thébaud.

White pear, citrus, delicate florals and fresh herbs lift from the glass. The palate is tight yet supple, with elegant fruit cushioned by fine acidity, a lightly stony core and lingering mineral freshness. Aged on lees until spring, it is direct, refreshing and beautifully expressive, with the structure to develop over the next three to five years.

Domaine de la Pépière is one of the Loire Valley’s benchmark estates. Its organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards are harvested by hand, then fermented with indigenous yeasts. Old vines, some more than 70 years of age, are preserved through massal selection, creating diverse vineyards and wines of remarkable vibrancy, depth and terroir expression.

Why we love it

Pure, stony and wonderfully refreshing, with white pear, citrus and gentle herbal notes carried by fine acidity and lingering salinity.

About the Wine

100% Melon de Bourgogne. Classic Muscadet, primarily from granite soils with a small percentage on gneiss. The core of the Sur Lie bottling is the 10-hectare heart of the Pépière estate, which is part of the Clisson cru in the tiny commune of Pépière near the winery; there is also a significant percentage of their cru Château Thébaud fruit. Farming is certified-organic or Biodynamic and the harvest is by hand. Very fresh always, with expressive white pear fruit. The palate is both tight and supple, although the feeling is very direct and refreshing. Fine acid underpins the wine - it's lightly stony core with a fine cushion of elegant fruit and lovely lingering minerality.
A wine to drink over the next 3 to 5 years, it has a more herbal and floral bouquet than the pure granite-based wines, this 2025 is another beautiful wine showing pretty herbal, citrus, and white fruit aromas. This is a great value Muscadet!

About the Winemaker
Domaine de la Pépière in Maisdon sur Sèvre in the Muscadet, is one of the greatest eststes of the Loire Valley. The reputation comes from the vibrancy and density of the wines which reflect their terroir, mostly decomposed Granite, Gabbro and Gniess.

There are 28 hectares of vines; about 8 hectares lie on the granite of Clisson in the more southerly part of the appellation, another 12 hectares further north, on the granite of Château Thébaud; both of which contain veins of metamorphic gneiss with amphibolite stones.

Domaine de la Pépière is a standout in the region for several reasons. Access to old vines - the vines are old, some over 70 years and all are planted 'selection massale'. Selection massale is an ancient and laborious method of replanting by taking the cuttings from the old and best vines.

It takes about four years to produce a quarter of the number of vines of the initial cuttings. As artisans they prefer selection massale because it provides vine diversity, resulting in complex wines.

Vines are farmed organically, harvest is by hand, even the basic Muscadet Sur Lie is aged on lees until the following spring, and they use only indigenous yeasts – all such practices are practically non-existant in the Muscadet.
