Flavour-forward Chardonnay with freshness and lift

Shed Chardonnay brings together fruit from several blocks across the northeastern slopes of Denton’s View Hill vineyard. Grown in granite and granitic loam, each parcel contributes its own balance of flavour, texture and bright acidity.

Hand-picked fruit was pressed directly to seasoned puncheons for wild fermentation, while a machine-picked parcel of P58 was fermented in tank to preserve its clean, generous fruit. Partial malolactic fermentation added a subtle gloss, and the wine remained on fine lees until bottling in February 2025.

White stone fruit, honeysuckle and sherbet-like grapefruit lead into a layered palate with a gentle mid-palate creaminess. Fresh, tangy and light on its feet, it delivers plenty of flavour without feeling heavy.

About the Wine

Vineyard

This Shed Chardonnay fruit was drawn from a patchwork of soils across the northeastern slopes of View Hill. Each parcel contributes its own character in terms of flavour, texture and acid line. The hand-picked parcels arrived early in late Feb, clean and bright, giving freshness and line. A machine-picked parcel of P58 added drive and generosity to the final blend.

Vinification

Hand-picked fruit was pressed straight to old puncheons and fermented wild. Machine-picked parcels were fermented in tank to keep things clean and fruit-forward.
Partial malolactic fermentation added a touch of gloss without softening the edges.
The wine stayed on fine lees until just before bottling in February 2025 - lightly fined, filtered...and good to go.

Vintage

The 2024 season kept us on our toes - wet early, with record December rain and plenty of disease pressure, then hot and dry through February and March, which helped restore balance in the vineyard. Fruit came in fast, but cool nights held freshness and line. A short window, big on freshness and flavour.

About the Winemaker
John Denton’s love for wine dates back to the 60s.  The Denton family began planting in 1997, chasing a vision bigger than the hill itself - a legacy.

In 2024, the Bishop family slipped in without fanfare and picked up the mantle - continuing the work with the same calm, quiet madness it’s always required, and an even bigger vision for what comes next.

The View Hill landscape - formed by the push and pull of weather and geology - rewards the wildly persistent… and those with a decent sense of humour.
