Drawn from the granite terraces of the Pazo de Barreiro within spitting distance of the Atlantic Ocean, this a wonderfully taut and mineral style of Albariño with mouth-watering acidity wrapped around a dense core of fleshy fruit. The winemaking for both Pentecostés wines is effectively the same. The grapes are hand-harvested and stored overnight at 10 degrees, and slow fermentations take place at cellar temperature in stainless-steel tanks, with a small portion of the harvest fermented in French oak. The wines are then raised on lees, undisturbed, for six months.

Look forward to mouth-watering, chiselled texture, flavours of pulpy orchard fruit, citrus pith and sea spray all cusped by pithy drive and zappy energy. Oceanic Riesling, perhaps. This heart-starting Albariño will age and build complexity as it goes, but it’s the kind of wine that will instantly wow alongside any seafood.

About the Winemaker
Pentecostés began with Alberto Cábaco, a Gondomar native who built his career in Galicia’s fishing industry before retiring to his birthplace in the Miñor Valley. His connection to wine began in childhood, working in his grandfather’s local wine warehouse. In 2015, he began patiently acquiring and consolidating 30 fragmented parcels surrounding the historic Pazo de Barreiro, ultimately creating the three-hectare Pentecostés vineyard and establishing the valley’s first commercial vineyard in more than a century.

In 2018, Cábaco entrusted the project to Jorge Marcote, a young sommelier turned winegrower born less than ten kilometres away on the Galician coast. Marcote had long recognised the Miñor Valley’s potential and accepted the opportunity to redesign the vineyard and create its winery. He rebuilt and replanted the terraces, established a small cellar overlooking the vines and developed a thoughtful, earth-to-glass approach to winegrowing. Pentecostés released its first wines from the 2021 vintage.
