Layered, savoury Chardonnay with coastal freshness

Pale lemon in the glass, this opens with lemon barley water and gentle mealiness before revealing white peach, fleshy lemon and a touch of salty minerality. Juicy white nectarine leads the palate, joined by a subtle yoghurt tang, lemon curd and buttery puff pastry. Fennel and salted lemon rind gather through the long, sinewy finish.

A warm, dry and stable growing season delivered concentrated fruit with excellent brightness. The grapes were hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed, then fermented entirely with wild yeasts in French oak barrels, of which only 10% were new. After completing 90% malolactic fermentation, the wine spent nine months on lees in barrel.

Young, fresh and beautifully detailed, it is a terrific match for fish and chips, calamari rings and, in true Melbourne style, a steamed South Melbourne Market dim sim. Drink now for its energy or cellar to allow greater richness and mellowness to emerge.

About the Winemaker
Moorooduc Estate is a family-owned winery in the northern Mornington Peninsula, founded by Richard and Jill McIntyre and now shaped by the wider family and a close-knit team. Richard’s scientific curiosity and passion for wine led him from a career in surgery to planting a vineyard, while daughter Kate McIntyre MW now oversees the wine business and works alongside Richard and winemaker Jeremy Magyar during vintage.

Across five vineyards, the team gives the vines intensive, hands-on care while embracing regenerative practices that build soil health, biodiversity and resilience. All wines are made on site in the estate’s rammed-earth winery using gentle handling, gravity wherever possible and natural fermentations with local wild yeasts. The result is a distinctive collection of Mornington Peninsula wines shaped by family, thoughtful farming and a deep understanding of their cool maritime environment.
