About The Wine
100% Nebbiolo, this spunky red comes from Heathcote fruit on rich iron and clay soils. The various clones were harvested separately and coddled in the winery. Block A was harvested early to maintain freshness and was direct pressed. The free-run juice was used as a ‘ferment starter.’ It started in tank and moved to puncheons for a natural ferment. Block C was harvested later and pressed to tank after seven days on skins.
“It’s a much more delicate wine than previous years,” Pat told us, pleased with the development. The wine was exposed to oxygen early on to help the yeast along and create firm, resolute tannins. It finished in old puncheons with “only the most aromatic and slinky barrels kept for the Super Juice final blend,” Pat shared. Stellar!
