Electric, aromatic Vermentino with explosive minerality

Albert’s Vermentino comes from Gullyview Estate in Watervale, where the Clare Valley’s warm, dry conditions allow this Mediterranean variety to build flavour while retaining brilliant freshness. Six hours on skins adds texture and aromatic detail before the free-run juice is fermented in seasoned French oak and stainless steel.

Lychee, dried peach and apricot leap from the glass, joined by honeysuckle and a gentle touch of spice. Stone fruit flows across the textured palate, driven by racy acidity and an exhilarating line of chalky limestone minerality. The finish is intensely saline, clean and mouthwatering.

Following full malolactic fermentation, the wine matured in stainless steel and old French oak for three months before blending and a further six months on fine lees. The result is complex and beautifully composed, yet charged with energy and freshness.

The vintage was warm and dry, which lent itself to creating great flavour in the Vermentino grapes! As a Mediterranean variety it is proven to work well in dry climates, this wine shows exactly whats great about Vermentino - salty, stone-fruits and fresh!

About the Winemaker
Anthony and Christine Koerner purchased Gullyview Vineyard in 1987, beginning a family legacy that now produces some of Australia’s finest grapes. In 2023, their son Jono Koerner and his partner Megan Jenkin established Gullyview Estate, creating wines that honour Anthony and Christine’s work while expressing the place the family calls home. Jono brought more than a decade of experience from Koerner Wine, which he co-founded with his brother Damon in 2014, to this new chapter.

Located near Watervale and Leasingham in the southern Clare Valley, the vineyards sit between 350 and 450 metres on terra rossa and red clay over limestone. Warm days, cold nights and the cooling Port Wakefield Doctor breeze help preserve acidity, develop flavour and reduce disease pressure. Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon are particular strengths, picked to achieve a precise balance between freshness and ripeness. Jono and Megan favour approachable, fruit-forward wines that reflect their vineyard and variety, releasing only those that meet their uncompromising standards for quality, value and enjoyment.

The palate is dry and focused with bright acidity, a fine texture and a long, salivating finish with a mineral edge. A finely made Vermentino with plenty of freshness and Mediterranean character.
