2025 'Scary Gully' Pinot Noir

Perfumed, pure and beautifully balanced

Scary Gully is one of the Adelaide Hills’ highest and oldest Pinot Noir vineyards. Planted in 1984 at 620 metres, its steep south-east and south-west-facing slopes sit on light loamy clay over sandstone, scattered with extensive quartz. The challenging incline gives the vineyard its name, particularly when wet conditions make farming the site especially demanding.

The pristine 2025 fruit was fermented in open-top vessels for two to three weeks with 20% whole clusters. The wine then matured for 10 months in oak, including 20% new barrels, before resting in tank for a further three months prior to bottling.

Beautifully perfumed and pure, the palate brings delicate fruit, fine structure and a seamless sense of balance. There is clarity and composure throughout, capturing the character of this elevated vineyard and the quality of an exceptional season.

About the Wine

It's hard to believe that 2025 is just the thirteenth vintage from Gareth and Rainbo at Gentle Folk. So much has happened in the wine world in that time it almost feels like a lifetime ago. Which makes the pedigree these single vineyard wines have managed to attain since the first was made in 2018 all the more impressive. 

The Gentle Folk Single Vineyard collection has always been about finding the best sites in the Adelaide Hills, farming them in the meticulous way that only a couple of PhD's can, and then letting the fruit shine in the winery.

We've probably been saying it every year for a few years now, but, as with previous years, this vintage's effort is another step up in quality and enjoyment again. 

Just 2706 bottles made. Excellent value Australian Pinot Noir.

About the Winemaker
Gentle Folk Wines was founded by marine scientists-turned-winemakers Gareth and Rainbo Belton in 2013, starting with just three barrels from a vineyard in the Basket Range. Today they farm five sites totally 9 hectares; planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sangiovese and Sauvignon Blanc.

Driven by a deep respect for nature and a hands-on approach to viticulture, they produce small-batch, minimal-intervention wines that reflect the character and diversity of their cool-climate region. With a focus on organic farming and gentle winemaking techniques, Gentle Folk has earned a loyal following for its vibrant, expressive wines—from elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to more playful, experimental blends. Each bottle tells a story of place, passion, and a thoughtful connection to the land.
