High-altitude Nebbiolo from Valtellina’s heroic slopes

Tupìch takes its name from the extreme steepness of the Valtellina vineyards from which it comes. These elevated, difficult-to-access terraces demand painstaking manual work, but reward Maria Luisa Marchetti with fruit of remarkable fragrance, energy and mountain freshness.

The wine blends 95% Nebbiolo with small amounts of Pignola, Rossola and Brunola from southeast-facing vineyards between 350 and 600 metres above sea level. The fruit was naturally fermented in stainless steel, completed malolactic conversion and matured for six months in large Slavonian oak botti.

Raspberry, blackberry, dark cherry and juniper fill the glass. The palate is succulent and generous, with cherry preserve and ripe raspberry drawn into shape by chewy tannins and fresh alpine tension. Expressive and deeply satisfying, it offers a wonderfully distinctive interpretation of Nebbiolo.

About the Wine

For this house style wine, a blend of Nebbiolo (95%), Pignola, Rossola, and Brunola (5%) was picked from south-east facing vineyards growing at 350 to 600 meters above sea level. The grapes were pressed and fermented naturally in stainless steel, where malolactic conversion then took place. The wine was matured in Slavonian botti for 6 months before release.

About the Winemaker
Maria Luisa Marchetti is a former schoolteacher born into generations of grape growers in Valtellina. After many years selling the family’s fruit, she produced her first wines in 2000 before becoming a full-time vigneron. Together with her husband, who works alongside her in the winery, she now carries forward the family’s deep connection to this dramatic Alpine landscape.

For more than two decades, Maria Luisa has cultivated the estate organically and followed an intentionally hands-off approach in the cellar. Her focus is Nebbiolo, known locally as Chiavennasca, with a small parcel of the white variety Solaris. The different vineyard sites are expressed through four individual Nebbiolo wines, all united by the Marchetti signature of perfume, elegance, lightness and mineral clarity.
