2023 'Orange Was the Color of Her Dress' Savagnin

Anything but predictable.

A quietly wild and wonderfully poetic take on Savagnin, Orange Was The Color Of Her Dress is an orange wine in spirit as much as in name, crafted from 100% estate-grown fruit. Extended skin contact (more infusion than extraction) draws out gentle phenolics and savoury texture, while natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention allows the wine to drift through oxidative and reductive phases, building serious complexity without losing its lift.

In the glass it sits somewhere between golden yellow and hazy apricot, more ethereal than deeply amber.

The nose is vibrant and detailed, showing yellow berries, white flowers and melon, layered with ginger spice, orange peel, honeyed notes and aromatic herbs.

On the palate it’s slender, fluid and irresistibly drinkable, textured but never heavy, driven by bright freshness and a saline, limestone-like minerality.

The finish is long and satisfying, closing on a beautiful sweet/bitter interplay that keeps you reaching for the next sip.

Set amongst the lush landscape of Mesnay, is the home and vineyards of natural winemaker, Patrice Beguet. Drawing inspiration from his love of jazz and the diverse scenery of Jura; his range of wines is electric, textural and complex.

Patrice left a busy life working in IT, in Paris to return to Jura, where he was born, and pursue his dream of making natural wine. He loves this region because whilst it is well known for wine production, the landscape is not dominated by vineyards. There are mountains, fields, forests (hardwood and softwood). Patrice lives and works amongst this beautiful greenery with his two young children.

Patrice strongly believes in minimal intervention and healthy living. When it comes to organics he says “I will never use any synthetic products. Not for me, my employees, my children, my neighbours or my customers”.
