100% Nebbiolo from Montagna in Valtellina, Poggiridenti and Tresivio between 350 - 550 m. Aged for 20 months in large Slavonian oak. In production since 1925. Along with Sassella, the wines of the Inferno sub-zone are Valtellina's most highly regarded. Inferno, or Hell due to it's extremely tough viticultural conditions, is comprised of 55 hectares of rugged terraces that sit between 300 - 550 m.

This is a strict, elegant, and quietly powerful alpine Nebbiolo that opens with perfumed red fruits and tones of dried herbs, tobacco leaf and anise. In the mouth, a staining core of mineral-soaked dark cherry is kept tightly focused by a backbone of clear, racy acidity. Medium bodied, regal and long, these wines are outright bargains in the world of wine.

About the Wine

At the beginning of the 1920s, Valtellina finds itself in a context of poverty and emigration. A strong desire to emerge leads Aldo Rainoldi to start his own business as a wine merchant in 1925.In the second half of the 1950s, his son Giuseppe decides to join him. The growth in quality begins with the purchase of grapes instead of wine, just as the sale in bottles replaces that in chestnut barrels. 

At the end of the Nineties, after completing his studies in viticulture and oenology, Aldo Rainoldi, Giuseppe’s grandson, joins the company to continue the family tradition. The aim is to combine qualitative growth with respect for the environment, leading the company to the next generation.

Today Rainoldi is one of the most popular wineries in Valtellina. The great success is surely due to quality and experience, two factors that place Rainoldi among the most refined wines in Valtellina.
