About The Wine

This wine is a stunning Pinot Noir from the Les Lumachelles vineyard which is in the commune of Mouchard which lies north of the central villlage of Arbois. The commune lies completely in the Jura region – we say this because Etienne does have some vineyards on the other side of the Loue River which is not in the Jura.

The grapes for this wine were harvested by hand and removed from their bunches in the field before being crushed and left to extract colour and flavour from the skins.

The juice was then moved to old barrels to mature and age.

The wine is light yet full of flavour, delicate yet fruits such as raspberries shine through, pure but reflecting the terroir of the vineyard from which the grapes came from.

The alcohol is a low 12%. This is an absolutely delicious wine!

About Domaine des Cavarodes

Etienne Thiebaud commenced making his own wine at Domaine des Cavarodes in the village of Cramans in the northern part of the Jura in 2007. He makes wines of amazing purity which reflect the terroir from which they come on either side of the Loue River and across to Arbois.

He only has 4.5 hectares of vines (ranging in age from 15 to 115 years old) which he farms organically but produces many cuvees from these small holdings. The wines are made as naturally as possible with the reds undergoing careful de-stemming by hand, semi-carbonic maceration and then maturation in large old barrels.

Key vineyards are Lumachelles which is in the commune of Mouchard just north of Arbois (where he has Chardonnay, Poulsard, Pinot Noir and Trousseau), Guille Bouton in Arbois (where he has Chardonnay) and Les Messagelins which is also in Arbois (where he has Trousseau).
