2023 Gentle Folk 'Scary Gully' Pinot Noir

    • $70.00

    About The Wine

The pinot noir vineyard at Scary Gully is one of the highest and oldest in the Adelaide Hills, planted in 1984, and sits upon a ridge of sandstone and quartz. The 2023 vintage ended up being the coolest and latest vintage on record so they had some serious farming challenges on the steep slopes in the wet! However, the low yielding, cool and slow ripening season has resulted in wines that have a depth and tension they have rarely achieved in the Hills, especially from 2023, so this is a true testament to the site.
Soil: Light loamy clay over sandstone with extensive quartz.
Vinification: 20% whole cluster open top fermentation for two to three weeks followed by ten months in oak, 20% new, before racking to tank for three months then bottled.

    About Gentle Folk

Gentle Folk is the winery of Gareth and Rainbo Belton, both marine scientists, who found themselves drawn to the Adelaide Hills to start making wine. With the help of viticulturist Dr Dylan Grigg they began acquiring small plots of vine and growing their own grapes - a necessary step, in Gareth’s mind, to establishing a true connection with the land. Since their first three-barrel ferment in 2013, Gentle Folk has made an impact on the Adelaide Hills wine scene, bridging the natural and traditional wine aesthetics in an honest (and delicious) way. The wines range... to single-site chardonnays and pinot noirs of classical proportions.
