Burgundy is coming to Act of Wine this October in the form of fine wines by Domaine Rougeot!
Join us in Southbank to taste through 8 gorgeous Burgundies from Meursault to Volnay with an expert on the topic, Paolo Elisei from Clos Cachet Wines joining us to talk through the range in detail.
This will not only be an opportunity to drink fine wine, but a chance to go on a journey through France and experience the "softly generous fruit" of the Meursault 'Sous la Velle', the "fabulous long finish" of the Saint-Romain 'Combe-Bazin', and even the "gorgeously explosive" palate of the Bourgogne Passetoutgrain!
These are perfectly balanced wines that needed no added sulphur to showcase their Burgundian essence. Domaine Rougeot understands the careful processes required to present powerful but elegant wines from the Cote d'Or and I am excited to share the final results with you.
The Wines
- Bourgogne Aligote ‘Plumes’: Ripe citrus, fresh apple, excellent length. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
- Bourgogne ‘Grandes Gouttes’: Very fresh apples on the palate, though feeling ripe, and good enough acidity in this cuvée. Excellent body, very promising for the future. 88-90 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
- Bourgogne ‘Monatine’: A sweetness to the fruit, medium to low acidity but a refreshing bitterness at the finish. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
- Saint-Romain ‘Combe Bazin’: Stunning wine! Enough acidity to back up the generous fruit, with a fabulous long finish. 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
- Meursault ‘Sous la Velle’: This has a softly generous fruit with a few of the more exotic musky and honeysuckle aromatics. 89-91 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
- Bourgogne Passetoutgrain ‘Vercherres’: Gorgeously explosive, with an exciting dark raspberry and peony character and excellent acidity. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
- Bourgogne ‘Vaux’: Dark raspberry, good weight and length, nicely balanced. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
- Volnay 1er Cru ‘Santenots’: A fine full purple, just 70% whole bunch. The bouquet is very pretty in pure red fruit, strawberries. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy.
