About the Wine

Chardonnay is often seen as the pinnacle of white grapes, and the Hills is a very good spot to grow and make outstanding examples. The 2024 blend benefits this year from the addition of the new estate vineyard in Basket Range and is a beautifully refined and complex Adelaide HIlls chardonnay that balances acidity, new oak and powerful fruit perfectly.

This chardonnay was sourced from vineyards across Ashton, Basket Range, Charleston, Piccadilly and Lenswood, with elevations between 350m and 620m and vine age ranging from 22 to 31 years. Clones include I10V1, Entav 84, 95 and 96. The soils are predominantly light loamy clay over sandstone, with extensive schist and quartz rubble.

Made from 100% whole cluster fruit, the wine was pressed and settled in tank overnight, then racked to a mix of French and Austrian barriques, puncheons and foudres - 20% of which were new - for nine months of maturation.

Gentle Folk Wines was founded by marine scientists-turned-winemakers Gareth and Rainbo Belton in 2013, starting with just three barrels from a vineyard in the Basket Range. Driven by a deep respect for nature and a hands-on approach to viticulture, they produce small-batch, minimal-intervention wines that reflect the character and diversity of their cool-climate region.

With a focus on organic farming and gentle winemaking techniques, Gentle Folk has earned a loyal following for its vibrant, expressive wines—from elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to more playful, experimental blends. Each bottle tells a story of place, passion, and a thoughtful connection to the land.

Important Delivery Information:

Same day deliveries must be received in person and cannot be left unattended.

Standard deliveries (not same day) are marked ‘Authority to Leave’ so our driver can leave the parcel in a safe place for you.
We will always do our best to find a safe place, however if the driver deems it unsafe to leave, your order will be returned to await further instructions from you, or in the case of Australia Post deliveries, the parcel will be taken to the nearest collection facility.
