About The Wine
As always, this is also 100% estate fruit sourced from 10- to 30-year-old vines on basalt, gravel and loam soils. A quarter of the fruit fermented as bunches while the rest was destemmed but not crushed.
Fermentation occurred in small, open-top vessels, with gentle plunging every day or so. The wine was then pressed to French barriques (just 10% new) for 18 months’ maturation.
About Hochkirch
Not many people are as closely connected to their land as John Nagorcka–and that is saying something! Since establishing the Hochkirch vineyard on the family farm in Henty in 1990, John has witnessed a series of climatic trends.
The pendulum swing of warm/dry spells–sometimes lasting years–has informed this grower’s stylistic evolution over the last 30-odd years.
His dedication to the Demeter biodynamic practice, his entirely holistic approach to farming and evolving taste preferences (it’s no surprise John’s a Burgundy lover) have all played a part in Hochkirch’s gradual move towards a more refined style.
