About the Wine
Mostly Nerello Mascalese with a little Nerello Cappuccio from the Bonaccorsi vineyards in Randazzo. Fermentation and maceration on skins in stainless steel, the wine is transferred to mature in older barriques. This wine is always released with age to allow more complexity and softer tannins. Spicy and expressive, with sweet and mineral tones.
About the Estate
Valcerasa (“cherry valley’) is a twelve-hectare estate located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, in Randazzo, Sicily. The Bonaccorsi family has been making wine in this area for four generations.
Today, Alice Bonaccorsi and her husband Rosario, with the help of their daughters Marta and Lucia, manage the estate. The vines grow at significant altitudes, ranging from 500 to 850 metres above sea level.
Alice is a passionate advocate for preserving old vines and continues to use the traditional goblet (alberello) trellising method native to the Etna zone. Alice and Rosario produce wines from Massal-selected old vines planted by her father Vincenzo. The bush vines are rooted in sandy and volcanic soil in small terraces separated by walls of lava stone and are managed without chemicals.
