About the Wine
2024 Single Vineyard release. Gentle Folk: It's so great to be able to work with grapes that are as loved and meticulously farmed as these twenty-seven year old vines from the boniest and highest section of the Turnbull Family Vineyard in Charleston.
This is the second rendition of this wine and its a ripper. Some more meatiness and red fruit than the cool and late 2023 vintage, but still showing plenty of delicate aromatics, spiciness and tannins.
It's such a great variety for the region and we hope to see more of it going into the ground and mouths in the future.
Winemaking
Fruit was hand harvested and 100% destemmed. Open top fermentation for three weeks before closing the lid and sealing for three and a half more months maceration. Only the free run juice is used, which is aged in a mixture of terracotta and French oak barrels (10% new) for 10 months, one of these being new, before being blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
About Gentle Folk
Gentle Folk Wines was founded by marine scientists-turned-winemakers Gareth and Rainbo Belton in 2013, starting with just three barrels from a vineyard in the Basket Range. Today they farm five sites totally 9 hectares; planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sangiovese and Sauvignon Blanc.
Driven by a deep respect for nature and a hands-on approach to viticulture, they produce small-batch, minimal-intervention wines that reflect the character and diversity of their cool-climate region. With a focus on organic farming and gentle winemaking techniques, Gentle Folk has earned a loyal following for its vibrant, expressive wines—from elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to more playful, experimental blends. Each bottle tells a story of place, passion, and a thoughtful connection to the land.
