    2023 TWR Sauvignon Blanc

    • $33.00
    • $38.00
The 2023 release shows distinctive Awatere characters of white currant, elderflower, and lemongrass, coupled with lovely ripe passionfruit & tropical notes and hints of basil and lime from the Wairau. These follow through to the palate – which is fine and soft with loads of fleshy fruit balanced by a ripe, juicy acidity and lingering minerality. There is real fruit weight here and that is complimented by lovely texture from the time on lees and the barrel parcels – it is utterly delicious!

    Review:

80/20% Awatere/Wairau Valley fruit; 10% goes into oak for ferment. Blackberry leaf, Thai basil and yellow guava. Blueberry flesh, fennel and chalk. The palate is weighted with ripe passionfruit, nectarine and honeysuckle. This is ripe and rich. It's densely packed and acidity trots in line, enabling a long, slippery finish. A hint of celery salt and raw cashew on the finish with a smattering of lacey skin texture. Lots of value here, for the price tag, and a memorable wine.

    About the Vineyard:

Te Whare Ra (TWR) is a small vineyard and winery located in the Marlborough sub- region of Renwick. The 11-hectare vineyard was first planted in 1979 and since 2003 has been owned by winemakers Anna and Jason Flowerday. Yields are kept low, the vineyard is managed with a combination of organic and biodynamic practices and the fruit is handpicked and hand-sorted. The wines are made with minimal intervention in a small winery which has been specifically set up for small-batch winemaking. The aromatic wines have carved out a reputation for TWR as a member of New Zealand’s elite, while the improbably good Syrah and Pinot Noir are opening people’s eyes to Marlborough’s potential for red wines of distinction. In recognition of the evolution of their cherished patch of Marlborough dirt, the Flowerdays decided in 2014 to label their single-site wines with their vineyard designation number from BioGro New Zealand. This number represents all their hard work over more than a decade to achieve organic certification. The SV5182 wines represent all that they feel is important in their craft: provenance, organic farming and authentic, world-class wines from Marlborough.
