About The Wine
Ar.pe.pe's first Rosso di Valtellina was crafted in 2003, after a sweltering summer made it impossible to produce wines with long ageing potential.
They chose to blend fruit from all their vineyards and crus into one immediate, expressive wine. The result was so impressive that it has been made every year since.
Today, the wine comes from vines over fifty years old, rooted in granite soils at around 400 metres above sea level, from the lower slopes of the family’s vineyards and prevalenty from the subzone of Sassella.
The grapes undergo a month-long maceration in traditional tini, before resting in chestnut casks until the following spring.
The 2023 vintage, cool and classic vintage, it is the perfect introduction to the pale, delicate, and perfumed style of Mountain Nebbiolo that the Perego family has mastered so beautifully.
Service tips: Decant and serve with rustic pasta and a side of braised greens.
About Ar.Pe.Pe
The Perego family has cultivated vines on granite terraces in Valtellina since 1860. They work exclusively with Nebbiolo (known locally as Chiavennasca, after the village of Chiavenna) growing the grapes up to 700 metres above sea level on steep, sun-drenched terraces that plunge directly into rock.
Today, 13 hectares are farmed across the historic subzones of Sassella, Grumello, and Inferno, the very heart of Valtellina Superiore DOCG. With a preference for long, gentle macerations, the wines are aged in large, old chestnut casks until considered ready for release, achieving the purity, finesse, and precision that have become their hallmark.
