About The Wine
Apples, citrus fruits and a hint of minerality. Fresh and crisp, with a clean finish. Despite a cooler growing season, we had a mild summer with gradual fruit maturation resulting in complex and elegant flavours in our wine. We harvested from various blocks from the estate, choosing each block based on flavour characteristics and acids for a fresh, fruit-driven chardonnay. The wine was naturally fermented in French oak with regular lees stirring to build texture and complexity.
About Punt Road
Jarrod Johnson heads a dynamic, progressive young winemaking team at this James Halliday five star-rated winery.
Punt Road Wines stands on historic Yarra Valley land where Swiss immigrant Hubert De Castella first planted vines in 1860, creating wines that gained acclaim across Australia and Europe. This same Coldstream property later became home to the legendary St Hubert's vineyard before the Napoleone family acquired it in 1978.
The Napoleone story began when Joseph migrated from Italy in 1926, eventually reuniting with his family to start as Yarra Valley orchardists in 1948. Today, the third and fourth generations operate 58 hectares of vines alongside heritage apple and pear trees, crafting Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and other varietals that honor both the site's remarkable history and the family's enduring commitment to the land.
