Sholto is quickly becoming one of the most exciting producers in the Basket Ranges. An incredible Pinot dark fruits, mushroomy earthiness and silky tannins.
The lion’s share of the fruit (75%) for this year’s Banksia comes from the Basket Range property. It’s 777 clone from the north-facing plot and MV6 from a block of south-facing vines. Manyara Vineyard, a sandy, loamy site close by in Balhannah, provides the balance. The 777 lends delicious, brambly flavours and structure to the palate, while the MV6 fleshes things out with mid-weight appeal. The fruit fermented with just a small portion of bunches (approximately 25%) with gentle daily pumpovers. Maturation took place in seasoned barriques for eight months.
