About The Wine

Appearance: Light straw, green hue and brilliant clarity.

Aroma: This distinctive Macedon ranges chardonnay bursts from the glass with lime, peach fuzz and white florals. Hints of lees derived nougat, fresh brioche and mineral notes are complexed with toasty oak notes. The perfume is persistent and intriguing, belying the complex and powerful wine beneath.

Palate: Grapefruit and tangerine fruits spill immediately onto the palate. The fruit flavours are augmented with wild ferment characters such as brioche and barrel warmth. The palate is very full and luscious, with a line of acid pulling the wine in, whilst adding length. The wine is textured with almond meal like characters added another element. A great example of cold climate Macedon Ranges Chardonnay.

Hand harvested fruit was firmly whole bunch pressed to impart some skin contact to release the full flavour profile and impart some phenolic texture. Natural ferment occurred in new (22%) and older French barrels. The wine was left to unwind and age slowly on its ferment lees to add generosity. Every barrel was treated as is own entity, with some allowed to go through natural Malolactic fermentation to add further depth. After 11 months the wine was racked and filtered prior to bottling in March 2024.

Established in 1998, Shadowfax is a family-owned boutique winery located in the heart of Werribee Park. It is headed by Chief Winemaker Alister Timms, who leads the small and innovative winemaking team. Shadowfax has a strong focus on regionality with fruit produced from its vineyards in the Macedon Ranges as well as their own Minnow vineyard in Werribee. Renowned wines include chardonnay and pinot noir as well as a selection of single-vineyard releases and unique French varieties. Their flagship Little Hampton vineyard in Macedon is planted on deep red soils over hard sandstone and quartz reefs and sits at 720 meters altitude. This unique combination gives the pinot noir its distinctive rose hip and violet aroma with grown tannins and flourish on the palate. The Macedon Ranges chardonnays display all the great things in ultra-cool climate chardonnay; flavour, poise, acid structure and purity. Shadowfax is proudly a James Halliday 5 Star rated winery.

Same day deliveries must be received in person and cannot be left unattended.
First time orders can only be delivered to the person who placed the order – we are required to check ID to confirm the recipient is 18 or over.

People receiving gift orders must have their ID checked to confirm they are 18 or over.
Standard deliveries (not same day) are marked ‘Authority to Leave’ so our driver can leave the parcel in a safe place for you.
We will always do our best to find a safe place, however if the driver deems it unsafe to leave, your order will be returned to await further instructions from you, or in the case of Australia Post deliveries, the parcel will be taken to the nearest collection facility.
Delivery charges are non-refundable. A $15 charge will apply for redelivery.
