About The Wine
Jean Foillard's Côte du Py is as pure and captivating as Beaujolais gets. One of the iconic wines of contemporary France
The Côte du Py of Morgon is one of Beaujolais’ great vineyards and certainly it's best known and Foillard is undoubtedly the master of the site. No one renders it with equal clarity, complexity or textural beauty.
Foillard’s rendition captures the wild cherry, mineral, and floral-tinged quality of the vineyard in an unparalleled way. He weaves silk into the texture and leaves a wine with haunting persistence and fragrance.
Review
"The 2023 Morgon Côte du Py comes from several parcels of granite and schistous soils with many centurion vines. This has a wonderful, very complex bouquet with exquisite delineation: crushed stone filters through dark berry fruit alongside hints of ash and light stony scents. The sapid and vivacious palate has filigree tannins, a silver thread of acidity, and a touch of cracked black pepper towards the long finish. This is one of the best Morgon's you can buy...but that's old news". 94/100
