About The Wine
Fruit from the Chalmers Merbein site in the Murray Darling region. Chalmers have spent years refining their approach to viticulture which includes heavy use of organic carbon to improve soil and increase water holding capacity. All nutrient and the majority of fungicide applications utilized are organic. Residual herbicides are not part of the Chalmers regime as soil microbial health is paramount. Mulch and weed control trials are currently underway to permanently remove the need for chemical knock-down herbicide use. Chalmers are fully certified at both of their Victorian vineyards with Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.
Winemaking - Harvested 28 January. Pressed as whole bunches, racked off gross lees after 2 days and co-fermented, 25% in barrel (one barrel of new French oak), the rest in tank. Barrelled down after 21 days of fermentation. Matured for 6 months mostly in older neutral French oak, with a small amount of new French oak. Wild yeast fermented, unfiltered, unfined. No adds apart from minimal sulphur. Vegan friendly.

About Blood Moon Wines
The first thing you need to know about Blood Moon Wines is that Matt Aulich is one of the most genuine, affable people you could ever meet. He is soulful and thoughtful. You can tell that he listens to his vineyard in the same pensive way he listens in a conversation with another human.
Matt grows grapes in Sunbury and the Diamond Valley while also sourcing fruit for Blood Moon Wines from other responsible growers all over Victoria.
This is wine for the people. Wine that is expressive of time and place. Matt takes a hands-off approach in the winemaking and the result is a sensory experience, textural wines that are considered and harmonic.
