THE OTHER RIGHT
Husband and wife duo Alex Schulkin and Galit Shachaf. Adelaide Hills, SA.
"Our approach is a seemingly lazy one. Winemaking operations are kept to the reasonable minimum. No unnecessary action is taken. Using fewer tools requires a lot of attention to detail, patience, creativity and problem solving. No additives are being used, letting the wine evolve slowly, according to its natural rhythm. Youth and freshness are to shine through, forming wine that is wild, vigorous and full of life."
All wines are zero adds - just grapes. A refreshing 10-11% alc.
2021 Bright Young Thing White Pet Nat
Chardonnay/Pinot Gris. Disgorged, but some light sediment retained. All for a good reason - will write a long technical post about this seemingly absurd technique. Yeasty citrusy goodness.
Organically farmed Chardonnay with a splash of Pinot Gris. Adelaide Hills
2021 Bright Young Thing Rosé Pet Nat
Pinot Gris with a splash of Noir. The former for the unforgettable vibe, the latter is just a finishing touch. This is freedom in a bottle. Makes you come alive and dance in your living room. See the world through a rosé tinted glass.
Organically farmed Pinot Gris with a splash of Pinot Noir, Grown by Mike and Margaret Sparrow in Mt. Torrens, Adelaide Hills
2021 Bright Young Thing Red Pet Nat
Carbonic Pinot Noir with bubbles from Magpie Springs (the Pinot, not the bubbles). Fresh. So alive. Poised but carefree. Can’t get enough.
Organically farmed Pinot Noir. Grown by Steve Thomas in Magpie Springs, Adelaide Hills
2021 Multicoloured Sunrise
We were beyond delighted this year to have been offered the whole lot of the Pinot Gris from our beloved Sparrows vineyard. Don’t let the vibrant, playful colour (and it is a vibrant, playful colour, btw) fool you. It’s all structure, finesse and crunchy watermelons. A light Nebbiolo would be proud of these tannins. We did leave it on skins for a bit longer, and we are very happy.
Organically farmed Pinot Gris, Grown by Mike and Margaret Sparrow in Mt. Torrens, Adelaide Hills.
2021 Stay Mellow
This time, in addition to the usual Sémillon, there is a bit of Chardonnay (both orange). Making this wine felt like sculpting, when the final image was visible from the beginning.
Hibiscus, chamomile, chrysanthemum, and sourdough bread that meld into a juicy, savoury sap.
Organically farmed Sémillon and Chardonnay. Grown by Steve Thomas in Magpie Springs, Adelaide Hills.
A featherweight orange Viognier with a dash of Pinot Gris. Bergamot, Turkish delight, fenugreek and cardamom. Like the feeling that summer is here. Like joy. Like it’s always meant to be.
Organically farmed Viognier. Grown by Mike and Margaret Sparrow in Mt. Torrens, Adelaide Hills.
2021 Love Potion
Ernst did it again. Dark and broody side of carbonic. Peppery and lively.
Like in the past, warm climate Shiraz that tastes like cool climate.
Full of essence. Essential. Enjoy with ease. Celebrate love.
Organically farmed Shiraz, Sellicks Hill, Mclaren Vale. Grown by Ernst Sigel
2021 Hearts Will Repair
Although we are naturally light-hearted, we can’t look past all the hardship that people around the world have endured in the last couple of years. We thought a message of hope would be appropriate here.
A carbonic cheerful Shiraz from the Sparrows vineyard. Very light, almost Loire-esque, but in Shiraz. Blackberries and hay bales. As light as Shiraz gets, really. 10.9% alcohol, perfumed and pure.
Organically farmed shiraz. Grown by Mike and Margaret Sparrow in Mt. Torrens, Adelaide Hills.
