A collaborative effort between organic farmer Juan Ignacio Acuña in Guarilihue and female grower in organic transition Nepa, in San Ignacio de Palomares. Both sub-regions of Itata.
Vine age is between 40 and 75 years. All vines are on granitic sandy-loams, with some clay-loams in the mix as well. Vines are horse-ploughed. Grapes were fully destemmed, fermented on skins in stainless steel, and pressed as soon as dry (two weeks on skins total) to stainless steel for ageing. 5ppm total So2.
This is pure Itata País. 100% Old Vine, Dry Grown, Ungrafted, Bush Vines. A very perfumed nose, grippy tannins and a medium, plump body, loads of fresh, ripe red berries so typical of País from Itata. Super approachable, tasty, naturally made and very low sulfur. Loves a chill. Speaks to traditional Pipeño is its fruitfullness, playfulness, rustic tannins, and ease.
'Corcho' (cork) is one of winemaker Juan's five vineyard dogs, who all have wine related names. The namesake for this wine as he's always lounging in front of the bodega, and has a gentle, easy playfulness about him. He's on the generous side too, a little gordo (chubby).
