Mirco Mariotti is from the far eastern edge of Romagna, far from the Balsamico and Lambrusco of Emilia, in a seaside area where time is spent sitting on the beach playing card games from which these wines draw their names.
Mirco's vineyards are remarkable, century old vines planted in beach sand, and at points at an elevation below (!) sea level. The whites are from native variety Trebbiano Romagnolo and red is the rare Fortana grape.
The wines are naturally refermented in bottle, high acid, savoury, herbal and saline. Beautiful and super refreshing.
This is a rose wine from Fortana, known for its savoury amaro-like bitter touch.
