Mid-90s planting that has been run organically for around eight years, but ‘managed’ by Si Vintners for the past four years. A new release from Si to slot into the tiers of chardonnay that includes Si White (semillon chardonnay) and Halcyon (old home block, planted 1979). Grapes are crushed, sent to various vessels, left on large lees, bottled unfined/unfiltered.
Pretty wine this, lighter than expected but not without depth. Clean, juicy, but clipped with saline acidity and some fine, nutty character. It’s got great energy, darts through the palate, shows judicious, spritely grape flavour with licks of savouriness. Exceptional length, vitality, with deliciousness a simple explanation for the overall feel. Lighter shade of Margaret River chardonnay, but without lacking, indeed, showing a wonderful finesse. Knock ya socks off. Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
