Notes for the Boomtown wines have been provided by Tim.
The 2017 Boomtown No. 2 Red marks our third offering under the No. 2 label. Vintage 2017 was in stark contrast to 2016, with very cool conditions and slow ripening giving way to lower sugar levels, higher natural acidity and complex aromatics. In short this is the best example of No. 2 to date. Structured and savoury, with bold, ripe red fruits and spice. This is our take on a classic dry red - something familiar and nostalgic and very much Central Victorian. The 2017 wine is a blend of Nero D'Avola from Northern Heathcote, Shiraz from Southern Heathcote and Cabernet from Yandoit with a tickle of Malbec and Merlot from Malmsbury. Each parcel handled separately with differing degrees of whole bunch in each pot, before being pressed to old barrels for 5 months, then racked, blended and returned to barrels with 40ppm sulphur added for a further 3 months and bottled in January this year.
