Sauvignon Blanc from a 1ha parcel in Verdigny, grown on clay and limestone (caillottes). The vines average 50 years of age. Whole bunch maceration for 10 days (semi carbonic), with only golden grapes that were harvested the same day as Auksinis. 50% botrytis. Aged for two years in tank and then another year in old wood. Never fined or filtered. Zero SO2.

Whereas all the wines are slightly orange from the oxidation, this is really orange but with a vibrant shimmer. The colour changes with air towards an amber tinge. So much more pungent on the nose! Blood orange and pink grapefruit burst out of the glass. Honey droplets, candied ginger, deeper baking spice notes, caramel and butterscotch are at the forefront. This is really deep. The palate is very much the same. This is a bigger wine to enjoy with food, and will also benefit with a bit more time in bottle if you have the patience. Fermented mango, raw ginger, ripe papaya and extreme saltiness take you on a tropical escapade. This is much spicier than the other cuvées too, with extra mineral detail and offers a slightly more raw and rugged experience than some of the more refined examples. From experience, it would seem that these notes will settle with more time in bottle, as they did in 2015. 2015 was like this on arrival and then a few months later became much brighter. Extreme depth of flavour and lots of punch. A lot of fresh passionfruit acidity and raw ginger on the finish too. This is for those that want a serious orange wine with a lot of punch, complexity and detail.
