Edouard Fortin lives in a trailer with no electricity in the middle of his remote vineyard in the foothills of the Massif Central. He is dedicated to permaculture and grows his grapes just like his garden where he gets his food. A man of the earth growing organic fruit and vinifying with no additions save for 15ppm sulphur at bottling.
Old vine (70 yrs) Carignan is a treat when handled gently like this. 2 weeks whole bunch maceration and 10 months in barrels. This wine is both light and pure whilst having the coiled energy and dark savoury intrigue that one can only find in older vines. Perhaps a hark back to the wines one would have found in pre-war France, freshness over power, perfume over colour and tannin. A wine for drinking and thinking.
