La Stoppa is an estate that spans over 58 hectares in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, founded in the late 19th century. The 2010 Barbera della Stoppa is made from fruit grown on 25-45 year old vines that are farmed organically. After a 30 day skin maceration the wine is aged in used barrique for one year. It is then bottled sans filtration and kept in bottle for one year before release.
A concentrated aroma of black cherries, plums and liquorice root. The palate expresses high acidity and firm tannins. This one enjoys a decant before serving.
