Indigene is a collaboration between Nicolas Reau and Antoine Delaunay. Nicolas purchases grapes from Antoine’s 25Ha vineyard in Vertou, which has been in the Delaunay family for four generations. The vineyard is certified organic and benefits from being in the heart of the Muscadet area. For Nicolas, the origins of the grapes he vinifies is very important, and so this is a long standing collaboration with a trusted organic grower. The forty year old Melon de Bourgogne vines are planted facing West and North-West, in fertile alkaline limestone soils. This produces wines with a beautiful streak of minerality and acidity.
A little bit closed aromatically but it sure does make up for it on the palate. 9 months sur lie (on lees) which gives the wine a very approachable savoury element. Mineral, saline and very fresh on the palate. The citrus acidity gives the wine a bit more energy and brightness and the finish has a very fine texture. This would be best enjoyed with oysters as the ultimate and most recognised food pairing.
