Les Terres Promises, The Promised Land, is located in the Village of La Roquebrussanne at the base of the Massif de la Sainte Baume, 30 km from the Mediterranean Sea and next to an organic goats cheese farm. Jean Christophe’s first challenge when he moved there was to recover the abandoned terraced vineyards that had been claimed by the forest. He is self-taught in organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking, having sought guidance from Pierre Breton (Loire) and Michel Richaud (Rhone) as well as the open discussion, exchange and assistance from other minimal intervention wine growers in France.
On the nose, expect notes of chocolate, smoke and rich fruit. The palate is juicy and fresh; leaning more towards the black fruit end of the spectrum. Blackcurrant and black cherry. Some very light notes of sweet spice. The tannins are soft and really round this wine out nicely. Carignan is said to be the perfect food wine; that it is more of an ingredient, so go ahead and try it with anything... REALLY!
