Christine and Joel Menard have been making wine in the heart of the Coteaux du Layon AOC for more than twenty years. While the appellation is historically known for its sweet wines, recent times have seen a huge interest in it’s dry Chenins. Domaine des Sablonnettes are seen by many as the secret superstars of the region. They lovingly tend to their 13 hectares of vines, which have been managed and certified by biodynamic methods since 2007.
This is the Sablonnettes version of the famous Coteaux du Layon sweet Chenin Blanc, grapes are harvested very ripe and fermentation is stopped at about 10% abv leaving 70g residual sugar in the wine. Opulent and exciting, with a rich viscous texture and stunning acidity that carries the sweetness so well. Lemon curd and minerals linger on the palate for ages.
