Established in 1975 by the Thompson family, Crawford River have been producing stunning wines from their vineyard for close to 50 years. Primarily they grow Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller plantings of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Their vineyard is maintained without the use of herbicides nor insecticides. They use organic practices and have a biodynamic test plot that Belinda prepared and planted with Riesling in the Spring of 2014. The fruit comes from two vineyards, planted in 2000 and in 2010. Riesling is just so good in the summer and this one especially is hard to beat.
Blossom and citrus notes abound in this wine, both on the nose and the palate. These elements, coupled with stone-like, mineral overtones and grapefruit pith makes for a delicious, complex mouthful. The time on lees helps create a textural palate and lively acidity aids length and balance. Speaking of lively acidity, pair this with a Thai beef larb for the ride of a lifetime.
