2016 Weingut Knauss Lemberger

Weingut Knauss

Regular price $34.00

From the southwest of Germany, Andi Knauss comes from a family of winemakers. Following in his fathers footsteps, Andi took charge of the winery in 1995 after finishing wine school. He harvests grapes from 100 different plots all over the Strumpfelbach village. Taking a natural approach to soil management, he chooses to manage it without any chemicals. His vineyard management takes a similar approach, with natural fermentations, and using gravity instead of pumps. Andi constantly overviews the vineyards that he works with to ensure they are all being treated in a manner that reflects the Weingut Knauss philosophy. All of the fruit is hand harvested so that the best quality fruit is selected in the vineyard.

Lemberger aka Blaufrankisch has an intense fruit profile. Dark fruits like black cherry and plum. Vanilla and cinnamon spices and bright acidity. It’s quite silky on the palate and has some nice grippy tannins. It would be great served with veal or German dumplings.
