January is the month for voracious mid-week drinking. Increasing evidence, including a recent Harvard study of 120,000 Americans, says that regular moderate consumption may lead to increased longevity. Spread the word, wine is food. Drink good bottles on a Tuesday night when you'll actually appreciate them, sleep soundly and show up to work with passionate enthusiasm. If you need some suggestions to get this particular ball rolling, scroll downward!

Thank you to every person who was involved in the WINE RELIEF event on Saturday. We hosted a packed out Lulie Tavern in Abbotsford with winemakers and importers donating their time and wines to the cause. We gave away heaps of raffle prizes including wine, shark dive vouchers, Vans shoe vouchers, Coffee Supreme prizes and much more. The silent auction was also a massive success with all items being bid on and sold; some for more than double the reserve price. Cooked with Jack did an amazing job with a very diverse menu and managed to raise over $400 alone. Over this week, we will be tallying up the final numbers on how much was raised but the figure is looking to exceed $11k.
In light of some recent information, we have also decided to donate a portion of the money to Wildlife Victoria.
We’re super appreciative of everyone’s willingness to dig deep on the day and help support the cause.

The new 2019 Grenache from Château Acid is in the building(s).
If you managed to get a bottle of the Rosato this year, well this is the cousin, or siamese twin of that wine. Made from bunches of Grenache which floated in the Rosato juice for a month before being stomped and pressed into barrel. After a few months resting in bottle it's tasting fressssh. A light red which dabbles in the cherry juice and grenadine notes of the Rosato but with added bitter Campari, fennel and amaro vibes, coupled with a little tickle of acidity it begs to be chilled and aperitivoed.

Organic, no sulphur, no nothing. "Made only with equipment your grandmother would recognise".

Available in both stores and online.

We all know pet nats are ideal for sloshing down in the park when the sun's out, but sometimes they're profoundly detailed and interesting and should be sloshed down with food, at fancy dinners, or to mark momentous life milestones, or even just to contemplate on that Tuesday night at home. We present a selection of pet nats with a bit more oomph: unique and rare birds of considerable pleasure. Such as Trossecco from Rudi Trossen; a pet nat Trocken Riesling from the Mosel, serious gear in an unserious form, laser-cut diamond juice grown on crumbling slate terraces in Germany. This will light you up in any situation, huge energy in this bottle.

Similarly blessed with ghostly vitality is Ghost In Ze Bottle from Val de Combres. A blend of Grenache, Muscat and a bunch of forgotten varieties from the gardens of their friends in the South of France, this wine is akin to a rosé but with layers of intrigue you can't quite get with just red grapes.

Other notable mentions in the current pantheon of pet nats here at Act of Wine include the super fun Good Times from Latta, the very pretty Brand Bros Rosé from Germany, a trio of gems from the Jura like the Overnoy Poulchard, Didier Grappe's Distorsion and Les Dix Bulles from Touraize, and the epic Brutal Ancestral from Bodega Cueva.
